Last September, pupils at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School held their ‘Walk to Africa’ event to raise funds for the Aspire to Africa project. This event, which was inspired by the school’s partnership with the charity, saw the students walk a variety of routes around the school to clock up the total distance, raising an impressive £7,254.55. Darryl Moffatt was presented with the remarkable cheque last month by the pupils at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School..

The school have recently held another event, ‘Vesey’s Got Talent’, in which a number of pupils had the opportunity to show their incredible skills to the rest of the school in an exciting competition. The winner of the talent contest was a year 9 pupil named Ben who sang his rendition of ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ by Sam Smith. Other competition entrants included piano players, trumpet players and a magician.

All money raised throughout both projects will be going directly to the next phase of work, improving the infrastructure at Buyuni One Primary School, Tanzania.

“The money raised through these fundraisers will directly impact the lives of the children, teachers and community of Buyuni One Primary School. Events like these show our students that through a little hard work, they can help change the lives of others thousands of miles away. I would like to thank, on behalf of Aspire Sports Trust and everybody involved at Buyuni One Primary School, all the faculty, students and parents of Bishop Vesey Grammar School for their continued support.” – Darryl Moffatt, Development Manager
