Aspire to Africa 2013

The third annual Aspire to Africa trip got under way on August 14th 2013. It lasted for 16 days and gave every member of the team a life changing opportunity.

Five members of the Aspire Sports team were joined by two members of teaching staff from the Deanery CofE Primary School in Sutton Coldfield and a member of staff from Leigh Junior and Infant School in Birmingham.

The purpose of the trip was to deliver sports coaching sessions and school resources to the children of Ulete Primary School and Ulonge Primary School. Both of these schools are based in the Iringa region of Tanzania.

The team worked tirelessly over the two weeks they were in Tanzania. They helped develop the skills and confidence of the teaching staff in both schools through a variety of activities including football, frisbee, parachute games, tennis, volleyball and softball. The local school children received expert coaching and got to try their hand at some of the activities and us the equipment the team had brought over.

As in previous years, the natural ability of the children was evident for all to see. Considering some of the children have never had the opportunity to experience many of the activities and sports that were on display made it even more special.

“The experience of the whole trip and theimpact we have had on the schools and pupils is something that i will remember for a very long time.  Seeing the reaction of the children when we handed over the equipment and the learning resources was amazing.  Aspire to Africa is a once in a lifetime experience and I wouldrecommend it to anyone”

The trip cumulated with a presentation to each school. This included sports equipment, coaching resources and learning materials such as text books, globes, pens and other stationary products to help develop the children’s education and teachers professional development.
