Aspire to Africa 2017

What a trip! Year three of the Buyuni One Primary School Project has come to an end but the memories and impact will last a lifetime.

Our team delivered PE activities and worked alongside teachers in the classroom sharing innovative teaching ideas, engaging with the children throughout to encourage creativity. At the end of each day a couple of the children were named ‘Stars of the Day’, rewarded with a prize for their hard work and excellent participation!

With week one having come to the end, the team set off to the Selous Game Reserve for the safari. They saw elephants, hippos, zebras, giraffes and lions, just to name a few!

Week two involved more PE lessons with an array of activities. In addition, each member delivered a curriculum linked special lesson of which the school had never experienced. Our team didn’t stop there, with the structural refurbishment of several of the teachers’ houses complete, they helped with the painting and two houses were fully refurbed by the end of the trip.

It was then time for the community football event, Aspire Sports Trust vs. teachers, older students and local villagers. With drums, singing and dancing the atmosphere was that of a carnival! The final score was 3-3. Resources, gifts and donations were given to children and teachers along with the lesson plans delivered over the two weeks. Heartfelt speeches were given and emotional goodbyes shared.

Aspire to Africa 2017 was unforgettable!
