Golf Day Fundraiser

32 players contested in Aspire Sports Trust Golf Day fundraiser last week with Ian Smith Group romping away with a comfortable 97 points to claim the team trophy.

Welcomed by the Trust team, guests were invited to practice on the driving range before teeing off from 11.15am. All teams were away and tacking the well-maintained Aston Wood Golf Club course by 12.30pm.

Trust ambassador, Chris Woakes, competed with players on the 7th hole. The current England cricket star played against each four ball with the challenge to beat his score. Just five players beat Chris and their names were put ‘into the hat’ to win four tickets to watch Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast.

At the half way stage, team members were invited to take part in a putting competition, with the highest scoring person, Tony Brewer, invited to putt for a £100 cash prize at the end of the round.

On the conclusion of the tournament, teams were rewarded for their hard work with an excellent barbecue on the terrace before the winners were announced.

Commenting on the event at the presentation of awards, Chair Mike Gowen thanked everyone for their support, including headline sponsors Solutions2. The prize winners for the longest drive on the 16th was awarded to Neil O’Sullivan and the closest to the pin on the 7th was Jon Sidley, both winning a £20 Aston Wood Golf Club Pro Shop voucher. The winner of the Chris Woakes challenge was drawn and the T20 tickets were awarded to Mike Pickervance. The Ian Smith Group team was presented with the team trophy and pro shop vouchers for each member before the day was concluded with a raffle.

Trustee, Paul Griffiths said “On behalf of Aspire Sports Trust, I’d like to thank all of the players, sponsors, prize donors and Aston Wood Golf Club for helping us stage a fantastic event. The level of golf was high and the feedback from all participants was extremely positive. Everyone was very generous and to raise £1,915.98 is just incredible.”

Next year’s event is already booked in and will be staged on Thursday 12th July.

We would finally like to say a big thank you to the sponsors and donors for making the day possible and contributing to a successful first Golf Day for Aspire Sports Trust.
